Sodium 2 to 1

In my constant quest to limit my sodium intake I’m trying a new shopping / eating technique that I’m calling Sodium 2 to 1.  Since I eat about 2000 calories a day and need to limit my sodium intake to 2000 mg per day I can easily glance at the nutrition information on the back of food packages and just compare calories to sodium.

Ideally I’d want a 1 to 1 ratio and then I could eat anything I want.  If that were the case I’d just need to keep my total calorie intake at 2000 and my sodium would come in at 2000 mg as well.

Unfortunately in the real world you’ll find very few packaged foods with a 1 to 1 ratio or better. So as a workable compromise I’m aiming for 2 to 1 foods and mixing them with things like fresh fruits and veggies and simple salad dressings I can make quickly from scratch all of which will be 1 to 1 or better.

I’m in the research stage now looking for supermarket or chain restaurant foods that come in at a 2 to 1 ratio. I’ll be listing them here as I find them and if you come across any I should know about just send me an email through my contact form with the details.

And feel free to photograph your discoveries and tag them on social media with my official #sodium2to1 hashtag!

Happy, healthy eating!
